I don’t sell, I help people : A change in paradigm that pays back in spades

Being a Sr. account manager with a leading oil and gas Service Company, my job has a sales component to it. And, in light of the recent low oil prices; a friend of mine asked me:

“How is the oil price affecting you? It must be difficult to sell in this environment”

To which I answered:

“Actually, I don’t sell. I help people”

Goals are success’s base ingredient

The oxford dictionaries define Success as “The accomplishment of an aim or purpose”

So, off the bat, one has to have an aim or a purpose; in other words: “A GOAL.”

The way I see it, hoping to be successful without having goals, is like hoping the win the lottery without buying any lottery tickets.

Cost of customer acquisition

Businesses spend a lot of money and effort on marketing. In fact, as a rule of thumb, a company would spend about 10 to 12 % of its sales revenue on marketing. Now regardless whether the money is spent on the company image, the product image, or public service announcements; the main objective of marketing is to increase revenue and drive sales up. That is, get more customers through the doors.

Manipulating tasks in OneNote

(Thanks Carl for raising this point)

I keep my Master List in OneNote. The tasks are linked to Outlook, so I can mark them completed in Outlook or OneNote. Also, I don’t delete my completed tasks, instead, I keep them on another page that I call “Completed Tasks” for reference. I move the completed tasks from the Master List to the Completed Tasks list manually as I was not able to find a way to move them automatically when they are marked completed. Even though I move the tasks manually, I still do it quite efficiently as demonstrated in the 2 min video below.

Iron Deficiency

​Do you feel often tired and have a low energy level even if you sleep and rest well? Does it affect your productivity level and cause you to procrastinate more? Iron deficiency might be the culprit.

Signs that you may be suffering from iron deficiency are:

  • You are always tiered
  • Your skin looks paler than usual
  • The tissue under your lower eye lid looks pale (it should be pink in color)

Sleep deprivation

Sleep is essential to our body functions just like food, water and air. Sleep deprivation has direct and detrimental effects on our productivity, mood, health and quality of life in general. A sleep deprived person is not effective, more irritable, and if the sleep deprivation is prolonged, more susceptible to illness and/or injury.
